Ihor Dawydiak There is a huge difference between freedom of speech versus hate speech which in this case was directed against the Ukrainian Canadian community. Moreover, while Dougal MacDonald who is currently employed as an assistant lecturer in the field of education at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, made his comments on his personal Facebook page, it should still be pointed out that Facebook is also a public forum. In addition, Mr. MacDonald did not provide so much as a shred of credible evidence to support his view that the Holodomor was some kind of "hoax" and that many Ukrainian Canadians were "Nazis" and that their offspring were "cut from the same cloth". What his comments did amount to was a totally unwarranted and unjustified clear defamation of character of a large number of Ukrainian Canadians. In fact, it should also be pointed out that the federally appointed Deschenes Commission which was formed in 1985 to study the possible existence of war criminals in Canada completely absolved the Ukrainian community in Canada from any involvement. And as for the Holodomor, the amount of proof needed that this was indeed an act of genocide perpetrated by Stalin and his minions was so voluminous and entirely credible that there was no doubt as to what happened. Now we come to the issue of Mr. MacDonald. Should he be fired from his position at the U of A? YES! He has stained the University with his presence. Should he be sued in outside court for trying to defame the Ukrainian Community in Canada? YES! And in that regard, it can only be hoped that the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and its allies will have the good sense to make this happen. And on one final note, while this is only my opinion, I am absolutely certain that there are a considerable number of people who are also on the same page.

I sometimes wonder whether Europe is even worth defending. This after being stationed in West Germany for almost half of my 20 year career in the US Army and being directly involved during Reagan's deployment of the Pershing 2 missile.

Up till now NATO has always been under USA command, while main contributor to NATO (like with UN btw) is EUrope ! Despite Trump stating the contrary USA just pays 22% and want to bring that down to 16% and ordering EUrope-NATO to help him in his global warmongering esp. in Middle East. The only time article 5 was invoked was FOR the USA on 9/11! Besides making the planet more unsafe, with Budapest Memorandum and USA blackmail esp. towards Ukraine USA changed the balance and made SU/RF the major nuclear power in east EUrope , by depriving Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine of their nukes and giving in return a worthless piece of paper, so RF invasion in Moldova, Chechyna, Georgia and Ukraine is mostly USA to blame for, esp. since USA just called it a incusrsion. Btw on 1.8 million NATO-EUrope soldiers those 62.115 USA soldiers, of which 35.000 in Germany don't make a difference, also seeing that together with Ukraine NATO-EUrope has more then 2.5 million soldiers and reservist, much larger then what RF has. So my advice to EUrope-NATO stop buying USA weapons, and let that orange douchebag scream....Remember the words of George Kennan: ?Were the Soviet Union (or Russian Federation - added by me) to sink tomorrow under the waters of the ocean, the American military-industrial establishment would have to go on, substantially unchanged, until some other adversary could be invented. Anything else would be an unacceptable shock to the American economy.? At moment NATO just is a webshop for USA military industrial complex...so next 9/11 or elsewhere in the world you're warmongering, don't count on EUrope's NATO ...you're on your own.....we don't pay your invoices anymore...
