From George Zukiwskyj:

For those that ask why are ethnic Ukrainians, those whose parents emigrated, the decendants of those who willingly left Ukraine after WWII, so concerned with what occurs in Ukraine today? The answer is simple although you ask the wrong question.

Those Ukrainians that fled Ukraine were refugees not emigrants - for the most it was leave or be killed, imprisoned or exiled to Siberia.

But, most important is what they did abroad. They ensured that their children maintained and kept alive:
the Ukrainian language,
Ukrainian culture, and
Ukrainian history.

They did this not be thought of as heroes. They did this so that the world would know, and in many cases remember, that within the Soviet Union there was a country called Ukraine which was not part of russia. A country that demanded recognition as a sovereign state. A country that despite the genocidal efforts of Stalin and the so called communist machine still existed.

That there exists a country whose culture and a language predated russia and survived despite russia's imperial influence. And, that the people of this land, this country called Ukraine, fought and died in their millions to keep her national identity alive.

A nation whose people, wherever they reside, will continue to fight for, until Ukraine gains global recognition of her right to have total independence from russia.

This fight will continue until Ukraine sheds the yoke of russian enslavement

So the question that ought to be asked is: Why is even one Ukrainian in Ukraine so willing to forsake Ukraine's heritage and be OK with russian usurpation through language, religion or governance?
