How to explain to your American friends the situation Ukraine
Every day, I talk to a really large and diverse group of people, and because most of them know that I am from Ukraine, I get a lot of questions. Below you may find the summary of my conversations
1 - Remind them that Ukraine is not Russia. It is sad that we have to do this, but this is the reality. Lately, I need to do it less and less, but the need is still there
2 - Say that in their mind, they should not even think about Ukraine. They should be guided by the benefits for their kids and by what is the best for United States of America. Just that, and nothing more.
3 - Remind them about Cold War. It was incredibly tough period of world history, yet no superpower directly clashed with another, preserving countless human lives. Why? This was because post WW@ world was built upon 2 premises

4 - Explain that if not made example of and if Ukraine is not supported fully and unconditionally, our world as we know would disappear in the nonstop horrific war of all against all; their children would be dying in the army or navy instead of living their lives. Remind them that every country has problems with some or all of it's borders.
I found that this argument usually swings a person firmly and decisively towards Ukrainian support. If they are hesitating, remind them about events in Iraq and fall of Ramadi to ISIS, and explain that this problem does not exist in Ukraine; Ukraine does not request American boots on the ground, American lives would not be lost there; there is tremendous will to fight - as opposite to IRAQ

Belarus highly appreciates contribution of international organisations to Chernobyl initiatives.
Belarus highly appreciates the contribution of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF to the implementation of Chernobyl-related initiatives, Belarus' Deputy Emergencies Minister Gennady Lasuta said during a meeting of experts to develop new strategies for international cooperation on Chernobyl.
Since the accident Belarus had gone through different stages: from the zone of ecological disaster announced in 1989 to rehabilitation to the current stage of recovery of the affected areas.
"Belarus views the assistance of the international community in overcoming the Chernobyl problems as an important precondition for the transition towards the sustainable development of the affected regions," he said. "We appreciate the contribution of the IAEA, WHO, UNICEF and other agencies to the implementation of Chernobyl-related initiatives. I would like to highlight the special role of the UNDP. Unlike other organizations and agencies of the UN system, the United Nations Development Program is more equipped to promote for socio-economic rehabilitation and sustainable development of the affected regions," the official noted.
Participants in the seminar are discussing the results of the Chernobyl-related programs of the affected states and the plan of action on Chernobyl for 2006-2016, and also the preparations for the international events in connection with the forthcoming 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident.
The organizers of the event are the Emergencies Ministry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and United Nations Development Programme - UNDP.
The meeting is attended by representatives of the five countries and ten international organizations participating in the United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force on Chernobyl.

The Russian government cannot afford to maintain its current levels of military spending for long because its shift of resources to the military sector is threatening the rest of the Russian economy and because its reserve fund will be insufficient to pay for this spending for more than another year or two, according to Sergey Guriev.
Guriev, currently an economics professor at the Sciences Po in Paris and earlier the rector of the Russian School of Economics in Moscow, says that experts have known this for some time but that the Kremlin has gone ahead anyway, something that opens the way for radical shocks ahead.
