Idee uit 2004 van vara debatplaats, laat burgemeester kiezen, laat burgemeester samen provincies besturen (provinciale staten opheffen) en alle burgemeesters samen het land, een roulend aantal van hen het land,zijn we al die overleg-inspraakorganen kwijt, een hoop ambtenaren en politici (kosten geld) en heeft iedereen z'n eigen echte volksvertegewoordiger en zijn zij de enige kamer/regering (provinciale staten en eerste kamer, al in 1815 genoemd de dierentuin van de koning)...en zijn we eindelijk ook af van dat dinsdag vragenuurtje. En voor diegenen die denken dat is teveel werk voor die burgemeesters, nu is het gros van het werk allemaal rapporten van de ambtenarij, dam is dat met 4/5 afgenomen...meeste werk voor gemeente, beetje voor provincie, beetje voor land. En zijn we ook af van die politieke partijen en die zogenaamde forums  voor democratie :-)

We can thank the Pa. Dutch for the pork & sauerkraut tradition. Because pigs forage forward for food & don't look back, pork is 1 of the luckiest foods to eat. Eating cabbage & other legumes (peas, beans, & lentils) is symbolic of money & another excellent food choice for New Years.

Fish is a lucky food too because fish swim in schools & that signifies abundance. Many will bake round cakes with silver or gold coins inside. If you get a slice with a coin, you'll have good luck. Eating round or ring-shaped objects is good luck--it signifies the completion of a year. Black eyed peas & corn bread are 2 Southern New Years "good luck" food favorites.

At the stroke of midnight New Years Eve many eat 12 grapes (1 grape for each clock chime) to bring good luck in the next 12 months. It's very good luck if you finished the grapes before the last sound of the chime. When hitting the sack on New Years Eve, sleep with a horseshoe under your pillow for luck. Do you wash your hands & face with a silver coin to attract wealth in the new year?

Burning a bayberry candle can be done on both Christmas Eve & New Years Eve. Some exchange 2 candles with a close friend to enhance your luck. Living in the country, it's not usual to hear farmers firing their shotguns into the air at the stroke of midnight on New Years Eve.

There are also "BAD LUCK" practices to steer clear of on New Years. DON'T eat chicken, turkey, or goose. Fowls scratch backwards for food & you certainly don't want to "scratch for a living" in 2016. DON'T eat lobster or lobster tail. Lobsters move backward & that's bad luck.

On New Year's Day, DON'T clean the house--you'll sweep away your good fortune for 2016. DON'T do laundry--you might "wash away" a person you love. Some even suggest it's bad luck to change bedding between Christmas & New Years. DON'T cry on New Year's Day. It will bring unhappiness all year long--so be happy that 1st day of the year (even if your favorite football team loses). And, DON'T lend money (especially to family members) on New Year's Day. Wait til January 2nd.
