Stories of outstanding Ukrainians in the WW2
'Nadya' was born in Chernihiv Oblast. Her mother died during Holodomor and her father was executed as a political prisoner. Before the Nazi invasion of the USSR she lived in Donbas. During the war she joined OUN resistance and became a machine gun operator. Soon she was fighting for the Ukrainian Insurgent Army in the Carpathians, where she was captured by the Soviet NKVD, tortured and sent to die in Gulag. Yet 'Nadya' survived.

A film highlighting the kidnapping & illegal imprisonment by Russia of Ukrainian Надія Савченко (Nadiya Savchenko).
Despite Russia now holding Nadiya for almost a year and claiming to have a mountain of evidence proving her guilt, they've repeatedly avoided putting her on trial?
Putin clearly has no credible evidence whatsoever and instead of acting like a real man and releasing her, he chooses to wimp out and instead use never ending delaying tactics. Truly sad that a great nation like Russia is now reduced to kidnapping young woman for political sport.

Angela Merkel met with Vladimir Putin in Moscow on May 10. According to the German Chancellor, Russian-backed militants in eastern Ukraine did not let Ukrainian humanitarian aid in Donbas. They have not withdrawn heavy weapons and are not in a hurry to exchange prisoners of war.
"As for grievances over fulfillment or non-fulfillment of the Minsk agreements, there are grievances on both sides," Putin said in turn.

Russia shelling Donetsk again and trying to blame Ukraine.
Conclusion
Russia and its propaganda media are playing foul game again. They are deliberately heating up the tension by shelling Donetsk again, like they have done so many times before, and blaming Ukraine for it.
The bad news is that such actions are a prelude to the larger offensives that are coming soon.

Parishioners of a village church in the Kherson Oblast voted to transfer their parish to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate after their former Moscow Patriarchate priest refused to pray for Ukrainian soldiers defending their country in the Donbas. Reports indicate that similar transfers that have been taking place in western Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war are now occuring in southern Ukraine.

Odesa 2 May 2014
One year ago today, the paid titushki and others fighting for the nightmare world of Vladimir Putin attempted to repeat their putsch in Donetsk in the Black Sea port of Odesa.
Happily, they have (thus far) failed.
Respect to all those who grabbed the initiative on that dark day and saved their city from Putin's horde.

Yes, ashamed they will be forever...but, let's face it, conscripts are usually crap in a firefight. So, how to resolve this? Promote a higher prestige, higher paid volunteer force of combatants, recruit women - as do Israeli Defense Forces - into all roles, and have conscripts - unless they volunteer for combat - serve in non-combat roles, fixing the tanks, loading the ammunition, building the bunkers and roads, driving the trucks, and freeing up the willing for active combat. They will still be at the front, basically trained and armed, just their primary duties will be non-combat. Then both publicly shame and prosecute the rest of the dodgers.

and Obama says : its not a red line, lets sign another memorandum with russia, we trust them (sarcasm off)

Kremlin's propaganda said during months that Mistrals non delivery would prevent Rafale fighters sell to India. Though, it was quite a stupid statement this was used and used again by Putin's auxiliaries in France. Non surprisingly the poor reliability of Russian competitors was never mentioned.
"...The MiGs crashed so often that India decided to retire all of them. Over the last half century India bought 976 MiG-21s and over half were lost due to accidents. While India was something of an extreme case in this area (other users don't fly their MiG-21s as much), it's been typical of MiG aircraft. All this is part of the decline of the once feared, and admired, MiG reputation. Starting in World War II (the MiG-1 entered service in 1940), through the Korean War (the MiG-15 jet fighter), and the Cold War (the MiG-17/19/21/23/27/29), MiGs comprised the bulk of the jet fighters in communist, and Indian, air forces. But after the Cold War ended in 1991, the flaws of the MiG aircraft (poor quality control and reliability, difficult to fly) caught up with users, in a big way. In the last few years most of the bad news about military aircraft reliability, accidents, and crashes has involved MiG products. For example, all Indian MiG-27s were grounded several times over a few years because of reliability. The MiG-27 and Cold War era Russian warplanes in general do not age well. All Indian MiGs (except for 66 MiG-29s) are to be retired by 2025, if not sooner.
It's not just mechanical problems. In 2012 India went public with yet complaints about an unspecified "design flaw" in the electronic flight control system for the Su-30. There were also problems with ejection seats and the new Russian "stealth" fighter (the T-50) which India is helping to develop. All this has led India to negotiate a deal to buy 129 French Rafale fighters and hope that this would persuade the Russians to improve the reliability of Russian aircraft... "

"Alexander Vershbow, Nato's deputy secretary general, told a conference in Latvia: "Russian leaders are less and less able to conceal the fact that Russian soldiers are fighting - and dying - in large numbers in eastern Ukraine."
There was "mounting evidence that the Russian incursion into Ukraine is becoming much less popular among the Russian public", he added.
Earlier this week, Russian investigative newspaper Novaya Gazeta published an interview with a wounded tank gunner, who said that he was a regular Russian army soldier and had been fighting alongside rebels.
He said he had received thorough training in Russia before being sent to Ukraine.

Ukraine says its troops are withdrawing heavy weapons from the front line
Earlier, Ukraine's parliament passed a new law to increase the size of the country's armed forces to counter the threat from pro-Russian separatists in the east.
The bill calls for a force of 250,000 personnel, including 204,000 active troops - up from 184,000. It will now go to President Petro Poroshenko, who proposed the measure, to be signed into law.
Lull in fighting
Meanwhile the government said its army had begun the second stage of pulling back heavy weapons on Thursday in line with the ceasefire agreed in Minsk last month.
A lull in fighting has led to hopes that the truce may broadly be holding.
Ukrainian military spokesman Vladislav Seleznyov said on Thursday one soldier had been killed on the frontline in the past day.
Rebels battled government troops in the village of Shyrokyne, east of Mariupol, in the early hours, Ukrainian interior ministry adviser Zoryan Shkiryak said. But he added that there had been no other serious fighting in the area.
Map showing the battle lines in eastern Ukraine
Both Ukraine and the rebels say they are withdrawing heavy weapons from the front line, one of the requirements of the ceasefire deal made in the Belarusian capital.
Monitors from the OSCE security group have reported weapons movements on both sides but say it is too early to confirm a full withdrawal.

The UN says the conflict has claimed at least 6,000 lives since it started in April, although it says that the real number of fatalities could be considerably higher.
On Tuesday, the US army's Europe commander, Ben Hodges, said the US believed around 12,000 Russian soldiers were supporting the separatists.
But US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland on Wednesday told a congressional foreign affairs committee that Russia had deployed "thousands and thousands" of troops, without giving a precise number.
Russian foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich rejected the figures on Thursday, saying they were "plucked out of the air".
Meanwhile, Russia's defence ministry said it had started military exercises involving some 2,000 troops in southern Russia, the breakaway Georgian territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and in Crimea, which was annexed by Russia from Ukraine last year."

But most Western leaders stayed away in protest against Russia's role in eastern Ukraine and its annexation of Crimea last year.
President Putin seemed to shrug off the Western boycott of the military parade. "Everyone we wanted to see was here," he said in televised remarks on Saturday.
Relations between Germany and Russia, which share strong economic and trade links, have reached a low point over the Ukraine crisis and subsequent EU sanctions against Moscow.
Angela Merkel has already said the EU plans to extend sanctions, unless there is progress on implementing the Minsk peace deal in full, says the BBC's Sarah Rainsford in Moscow.
