The leading EU countries are trying to weaken sanctions against Russia for aggression against Donbas. America is concerned.
The case is revealed by the "Financial Times. According to the newspaper "diplomats of Italy and France proposed a "modification of sanctions to better reflect progress in eastern Ukraine, where thanks to the conclusion of agreements in Minsk in February no longer is open conflict". "Wall Street Journal" confirms that "The Union is considering whether to extend economic restrictions". This should include of Russian banks stopped lending and frozen aid in the extraction of oil.
Brussels introduced sanctions in July last year after the shooting down by Russian separatists Malaysian aircraft of 293 people on board and their occupation of parts of Donbass. Restrictions established for a year, if not soon be extended by unanimous decision of 28 EU countries as of 1 August in general cease to apply.
Loosening sanctions when negotiations on the final settlement of the status of Donbass not even begun - it would be a clear signal that the EU does not intend to seriously engage in the defense of the sovereignty of Ukraine.
