Belarus MFA: We are not completely satisfied with OSCE's work.
Belarus has always persistently called for greater balance in OSCE work, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said after talks with OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier and OSCE OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Director Michael Georg Link on 15 June in Minsk.
However, the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry acknowledged that OSCE is the organization, the uniqueness of which is expressed not only through the composition of the participants, but also through its comprehensive approach to security.
OSCE, according to Makei, has become a central element of the security structure of Europe.
The minister stressed that OSCE's representatives have come to Belarus at a time when the region is dealing with a difficult situation. "Your visit is timely," Vladimir Makei noted. He pointed out that while in Belarus, the OSCE Secretary General will have a chance to get his own idea of the developments in the country.
OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier said: "We welcome the role of Belarus in promoting the de-escalation of the conflict in Ukraine. Minsk is well known as a meeting place for these groups (of the contact group and the working groups on Ukraine)". He also expressed the hope that the Minsk agreements will facilitate the peace process.
