Mini submarine vreck found near Swedish coast.
Brief summary:
Wreckseekers say that they have found a sunken submarine near the Swedish coast roughly off of the center line of the country. The Ocean X team will not reveal the exact location of the submarine, but says that it has sunk roughly three kilometers off of the beach.
- We are completely sure the submarine is in Swedish territorial waters, says Ocean X team member Dennis Åsberg.
Ocean X found the wreck last week after receiving a tip off by an Icelandic company, according to Expressen.
- We began searching from the area that was indicated and we found the submarine quite quickly. The hull appears to be undamaged, apart from some minor bumps, Ocean X member Peter Lindberg says.
According to Ocean X the submarine is 20 meters long, and three meters wide. The doors and escape hatches appear to be sealed.
- This almost certainly means that the crew is still inside, Dennis Åsberg says.
- The Swedish defense forces confirm that they have been made aware of the location of the wreck and are going to proceed with an investigation.
- The Ocean X team says that the tower of the submarine appears to have cyrillic letters.
- There was no distress call, and the submarine is in great condition, described as practically untouched. It has not been at the bottom of the ocean for very long.
- Sweden confirms that none of its submarines are missing.
