The goal of the war is not only the conquest of Ukraine, but also the defeat of the entire collective West, primarily the Europeans and their values, as Putin and his court propagandists often like to repeat.

However, this vision must be justified, or rather, necessary, so that the outcome of the war can be presented to the Russians as a victory and the Russian Federation's achievements can be demonstrated. However, in Trump's 28-point plan, the Russians will not obtain a demilitarized Ukraine, will not gain important territories, will not ensure the defeat of the collective West, and, furthermore, the Americans will take hundreds of billions of euros from them. Such an outcome can hardly be presented as a victory, even in Russia.

But more importantly, beyond the soldiers killed and wounded, is what the Russians have lost. Above all, it's their reputation, their international influence, and their political power on the international stage, where they are now being pressured to make peace by the Americans, who threaten to launch nuclear warheads at Washington or New York every night in televised debates on the Rossiya 1 channel. Moreover, these same Americans are now suppressing the Russian energy sector with sanctions and sharing intelligence with the Ukrainians, who are ruthlessly disabling facilities.

So what did the Russians win or conquer? The ruins of Donbas, part of the Zaporizhia Oblast, whose water supply depends on Ukraine's control of the Kakhovka Dam? Or part of the swampy Kherson Oblast? Or the inoperative canal that was supposed to restore water to Crimea, which completely failed after the Kakhovka Dam was blown up? The ruins of Bakhmut, Lysychansk, or Avdiivka are worthless and cannot be perceived as profit, since the cost of restoration does not equal the desired benefit.

The US president is currently under pressure from Europeans, Ukrainians, Canadians, Japanese, and Turks over his plan. However, the main enemy of Trump's plan remains Putin himself, who needs to achieve more. This is why the Russian president stated that this is only the beginning and that certain points need to be negotiated – the conditions are not and cannot be sufficient for Putin. Even the maximum possible territorial concessions do not align with Putin's goals, which he proclaims almost daily in the media. Ukraine must not have the right to exist; the country must be completely broken and humiliated, and any attempts at sovereignty and territorial integrity must be eradicated – Ukraine is not part of the Russian concept, as some of Putin's allies in Europe and Africa are trying to emphasize.

Even the most accommodating approach to Russians encounters resistance from the Kremlin, which must extract major concessions from the war so that Russian leaders can defend the unprecedented loss of life, the standard of living, and their sovereignty and influence. As history shows, the Tsarist dynasty fell after defeat in World War I, the Soviet Union after withdrawing from Afghanistan, which the Russians also considered a victory, and Boris Yeltsin after defeat in the First Chechen War. The same fate could befall Vladimir Putin if he ends the war on terms he cannot present to the Russians as an absolute victory.
