Even RT manages to sneak past the Kremlin radar to post about how bad the Russian economy is getting, contrary to what Putin has promised, and commenters are already making excuses and pretending that just a month ago they weren't cheering the "strong" russian economy. It's so predictable at this point, people sometimes complain that RT dosn't talk about negative Russian issues, but when they do the commenters skate around it anyway.

In 1921-1923 in Soviet Russia experienced one of the worst disasters of the twentieth century – the outbreak of the famine claimed the lives of millions of people (according to some estimates, killed more than 5 million people). The tragedy could buy even more frightening dimensions, if not for the help of the American Administration Aid (American Relief Administration=ARA, Russian writing ARA) headed by Herbert Hoover, delivering thousands of tons of food, medicines and clothing. It was a unique experiment of the interaction of two opposing systems, that did not prevent joint efforts to successfully overcome the tragedy. Action against hunger has become one of the seminal episodes in Soviet-American relations twentieth century, However, the activities of the ARA in Russia are now either forgotten or ignored or distorted beyond recognition. In many of today's new history books the story of American aid is completely missing, as if it were not there at all, or mentioned in passing. This article presents the main directions of assistance undertaken by the ARA during the famine of 1921-1923 in Soviet RussiaThe first signs of hunger emerged in the fall of 1920 In Samara and other Volga cities begins the influx of starving peasants from the surrounding villages. Crowds of hungry become a daily pattern of the urban environment. The villagers abandoned their houses and thousands rushed to the South. In December 1920 in Saratov peasants appeared, asking for alms. In may 1921, there were already about 10 thousand refugees from hunger. People fled to the fruitful province, some of them were abroad (Volga Germans). To stop the huge flow of refugees from starving provinces, the government was not able to. In may and June 1921 Lenin had ordered the purchase of food abroad, but it was intended to supply the cities, and not the peasantry. The press was forbidden to make reference to the famine, on the contrary, even by early July, 1921, it was reported that in the village the normal position.
