2+ million people formed a 600 km human chain and showed their determination to be free from USSR (and that happened 3 months before the collapse of the Berlin Wall!)

Ukrainians supported army with 159.5 million hryvnias

Since the beginning of the anti-terrorist operation, the Ministry of Defense has received 159.5 million UAH (about $7 million) from the citizens of Ukraine, including 6.16 million UAH (about $279 thousands) received in 2015, announced the Head of the Defense Ministry PR Department Oksana Havryliuk at a briefing today.

"The Armed Forces of Ukraine continue receiving support from Ukrainian citizens. In the framework of Support Ukrainian Army initiative launched in mid-March 2014, the Ministry of Defense has received about 159.5 million UAH, including 6.16 million UAH received in 2015. Out of this amount, about 145 million UAH were intended for material and technical support, and the rest - for medical support. 565 call number support helped raise more than 1.15 million UAH (about $50,611) since the beginning of 2015. All the money is meant for material and technical support of Ukrainian military," Havryliuk said.

In 2015, the Ministry of Defense also received foreign currency transfers from individuals and organizations, equaling to 860,000 UAH (about $39,036).
