I have had enough of this constant Poroshenko bashing by certain members of our group. The enemy of Ukraine is towards the east, turn your heads in that direction, not Kyiv.
Poroshenko is in an impossible position, and considering the circumstances, I think he is doing an admirable job. Ukraine was back-stabbed by the west via the Budapest Memorandum - and faces a nuclear-armed power with a sick and evil leader who may be insane enough to use these weapons. If Ukraine fights back, the military is outmatched (without more western support which is iffy at this point). If Ukraine sits back, then Kyiv is attacked for "letting Russia take over Ukraine".
Instead of complaining, how about doing something productive like supporting the volunteers? You know what Ukraine needs? 250,000 more volunteers in the army...would you rather Ukraine go back to Yanukovych ordering protesters shot in the streets? Reform takes time - if Ukrainians are unhappy with the progress they will have the LEGAL opportunity to vote somebody else in for this unenviable task. Throwing grenades at police officers does nothing good for the country.
And as far as selling his businesses, do you know anybody who is ready to fork over hundreds of millions of dollars for a business in a war-torn country who is being attacked daily with an unstable currency? I sure don't.

There are calls for Ukraine to adopt a policy of "Finlandization." Finlandization would probably settle the war with Russia by ruling out Ukraine ever joining NATO. However there seems to be a general lack of consensus within the expert community regarding the extent to which a Finlandization strategy should define Ukraine's economic, foreign or security policies. Russia regularly applies threats and coercion to Finland for various reasons, so it's likely Russia would use Finlandization of Ukraine to recapture it.
Note - Russia has broken many agreements with Ukraine. So why would this agreement hold? And wasn't Ukraine essentially following this path for many years, during which time Russia was undermining it?
