Forest fires in Gomel region cover area of 60 hectares.
First reports of fires in the south of Belarus came on 13 June. On 14 June the burning area spanned over 60 hectares, the Ministry of Emergency reported.
11 emergency vehicles, 3 helicopters and a resque team of 165 people were involved in putting the fire down.
16 people were spotted in the dangerous area and evacuated by air.
As of 6 a.m. on 15 June the Ministry reported about resque operations in three areas where fires were continuing: on 35 hectares near the village Kozhushko in Khoyniki district and 0.5 hectares near the village Tartak in Lelchitsy district.
Resquers say there's no threat to urban settlements. Specialists are monitoring the level of radiation in the area.

Vladimir Putin and his regime are a logical reflection of the fact that "almost no one [in Russia] wanted a real democracy with division of power and a vital civil society," according to Levada Center head Lev Gudkov. Consequently, it is possible to say that "Russians have received what the majority of them wanted."

Given the distance in time and the fog of Soviet and Russian propaganda, many have forgotten what Stalin did in 1940, have accepted Moscow's explanations for it, and have failed to see how little has changed in the Russia modus operandi with regard to its neighbors as the world can see in the cases of Georgia and Ukraine.

http://euromaidanpress.com/2015/06/15/putin-loses-ability-to-protect-criminals/
Political analyst Vitaliy Portnikov writes that the international arrest warrant issued for Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir for war crimes, as well as the pursuit of corrupt FIFA officials, demonstrates to Putin that even his status as current head of state may not protect him and his circle from international justice. Hiding out in Russia may turn out to be their only option -- acceptable perhaps for Putin, but probably not for his circle.

The Russian press will be crowing about how the Dear Leader has been vindicated and how Russia is indeed under siege. The pro-Kremlin dupes and "realists" in the West will lament over this "escalation."...What none of these morons and propagandists will note, however, is the fact that the US didn't have these forces in Europe until recently.

"Although some assert that the demand for Russian passports simply "arose", there appears to have been prompting. Journalist Pavel Sheremet, who on June 13 reported queues outside the Russian consulate in Tiraspol, writes that a fast-track system for issuing Russian citizenship has been introduced.
This largely corresponds with a report on the pro-Russian 'News of Transnistria' site on June 10 that "Russia has allowed people from Transnistria to have double citizenship". "

It remains an open question when Snowden's relationship with Russian intelligence began, but denying that he has one now, after two years in Russia, reflects a deep misunderstanding of how Putin, his Kremlin, and the FSB operate.
For two years, Edward Snowden and his advocates have spun an enticing yarn about a pure-hearted and heroic lover of freedom who "told the truth" about Western democracies. In reality, the "whistleblower" may be no more than a pawn of countries that seek to harm the West.

Health journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza, Jr. is gradually improving. He started to eat, doctors cut off it from the apparatus of hemodialysis and celebrate the restoration of the internal organs. According to Vladimir Kara-Murza, SR., his son is conscious, answering questions, but could not remember what exactly happened to him.
http://www.svoboda.org/content/article/27066815.html

Russia has undergone significant changes since the collapse of the Soviet Union, moving from a globally-isolated, centrally-planned economy towards a more market-based and globally-integrated economy, but stalling as a partially reformed, statist economy with a high concentration of wealth in officials' hands. Economic reforms in the 1990s privatized most industry, with notable exceptions in the energy and defense-related sectors. The protection of property rights is still weak and the private sector remains subject to heavy state interference. Russia is one of the world's leading producers of oil and natural gas and is also a top exporter of metals such as steel and primary aluminum. Russia's manufacturing sector is generally uncompetitive on world markets and is geared toward domestic consumption. Russia's reliance on commodity exports makes it vulnerable to boom and bust cycles that follow the volatile swings in global prices. The economy, which had averaged 7% growth during 1998-2008 as oil prices rose rapidly, was one of the hardest hit by the 2008-09 global economic crisis as oil prices plummeted and the foreign credits that Russian banks and firms relied on dried up. Slowly declining oil prices over the past few years and difficulty attracting foreign direct investment have contributed to a noticeable slowdown in GDP growth rates. In late 2013, the Russian Economic Development Ministry reduced its growth forecast through 2030 to an average of only 2.5% per year, down from its previous forecast of 4.0 to 4.2%. In 2014, following Russia's military intervention in Ukraine, prospects for economic growth declined further, with expections that GDP growth could drop as low as zero.
