Belarus among runners-up in list of World's Most Censored States.
The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists on Tuesday issued its annual list of the world's top 10 most censored countries, The New York Times reports.
According to its creators, Belarus is mentioned as one of "four heavily censored nations that nearly made the list" along with Equatorial Guinea, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The report says each of these four countries has little or no independent media.
Top 10 states of the list are Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Azerbaijan, Vietnam, Iran, China, Myanmar and Cuba.
Special attention in the report is paid to the ways in which countries with censorship restrict access to Internet. In this respect it is worth noticing that Belarusian authorities have aproved amendements to the media law as of 1 January 2015 that gave them more powers in term of control over online media.
