💡 You may know Vladimir Osechkin fled to France from Russia in 2015 with his family before the FSB could grab him, but what was the catalyst that had suddenly put his life at risk?
Feb 27: Boris Nemtsov is assassinated on the bridge in front of the Kremlin.
Mar 7: FSB Director Bortnikov announced several Chechens assassinated Nemtsov and they're in custody. Case Solved!
Mar 8: Osechkin received information from a source inside the Lefortovo prison that the Chechens had been brutally tortured with their hands & feet shackled in order to extract confessions.

As a defender of human rights, Osechkin had enough influence to get the Moscow Public Defender's Office to investigate. Attorneys Eva Merkacheva and Andrei Babushkin were sent to Lefortovo and publicly confirmed that incarcerated Chechens incriminated themselves only as a result of brutal torture and they appeared to have had nothing to do with Nemtsov's assassination.

Osechkin's actions led to Russia's own government lawyers debunking and discrediting the FSB Director Bortnikov's narrative.

Initially, Putin attempted to buy off Osechkin and recruit him to the dark side. But after he refused all of their offers, Osechkin received an urgent letter from a source in the FSB that he must urgently flee Russia, as the orders to take him were already issued.

Exposing the Nemtsov assassination coverup was the catalyzing event that forced Osechkin to flee Russia.
