that I had to communicate not with highly educated people,
but with street-bred, tough, unsentimental, narrow-minded types
who never went beyond their limited experience and who always valued protection,
bribes, blackmail, deception and, occasionally, violence
as legitimate methods of their activities.
Diplomatic language does not exist for Russian politicians at all, there is pushing against the wall and the language of "their own concepts."
Addressing the Russians in the audience,
I said that America cannot and should not fight for them,
that the fate of Russia is their business;
but I added that I will root for them, being firmly convinced that all people strive for the principles of human rights,
the rule of law and self-government.

"They raped all German women between eight and eighty years old... "It was the greatest phenomenon of mass rape in history," are the words of Sir Anthony Beevor, respected English military historian and member of the renowned Royal Society of Literature, about the events that occurred in the days, months and years after the Soviet Red Army and its allies occupy Berlin and its German territories.
Very few people in the West know about this grotesque atrocity and in Russia, Beevor books have even been banned in some schools and universities. As the saying goes, "History is written by the winners," but the truth is almost always more obscure than historical propaganda.
Stalin's troops assaulted countless women as they made their way to the German capital, and once it completely fell on May 2, 1945, it was an "open season" for any woman, regardless of her age or role in the war.
In Berlin, many women simply weren't prepared for the impact of Russian Revenge, despite the horror propaganda they'd heard from Goebbels. Many trusted that, although the danger must be great in rural areas, mass rapes could hardly take place in the city before everyone's eyes.
In Dahlem (in southwest of Berlin), Soviet officials visited Sister Kunigunde, superior mother of Haus Dahlem, a maternity and orphanage clinic. Nuns, young women, elderly women, pregnant women and mothers who had just given birth were raped mercilessly.
Many women were forced to "surrender" to a soldier in hopes that he would protect them from others. Magda Wieland, a 24-year-old actress, was dragged out of a closet in her apartment right next to Kurfürstendamm. A very young soldier from central Asia pulled it out. I was so excited at the prospect of a beautiful young blonde who ejaculated prematurely. Because of sign language, she offered herself to him as a girlfriend if he was protecting her from other Russian soldiers, but he went to brag to his peers and another soldier raped her. Ellen Goetz, a Jewish friend of Magda, was also raped. When other Germans tried to explain to Russians that she was Jewish, they got the response: "Frau ist Frau."
Women soon learned to disappear during the "hunting hours" of the afternoon. The young daughters hid in storage lofts for days and days. Mothers went out to the street to get water alone early in the morning when Soviet soldiers were drunk because of the night before. Sometimes, the greatest danger came from a mother who broke out other girls' stash in a desperate attempt to save her own daughter. Older Berliners still remember the screams every night. It was impossible not to listen to them as all the windows were broken due to the war.
Between the months of April and May, the estimates of rape victims between the city's two major hospitals ranged from 95,000 to 130,000. A doctor deducted that of the approximately 100,000 women raped in the city, about 10,000 died as a result, mainly by suicide. The mortality rate was much higher among the 1.4 million estimated victims in East Prussia, Pomerania and Silesia. In total, it is believed that at least two million German women were raped, and a substantial minority, if not most, appear to have suffered multiple rapes: according to historian William Hitchcock, in many cases women were victims of repeated rapes, some 60 to 70 times, and many of those times by groups of at least 2 or more soldiers at a time.
If anyone tried to defend a woman against a Soviet attacker, it was a father trying to defend a daughter or a son trying to protect his mother. "13-year-old Dieter Sahl," neighbors wrote in a letter shortly after the event, "threw his fists at a Russian who was raping his mother in front of him." He didn't succeed in anything except getting shot." As Natalya Gesse, who was a Soviet war correspondent at the time, said: "It was an army of rapists."
In 1948, rape cases declined sharply after Soviet troops were ordered to return to their camps in Russia and leave residential areas of Germany, and by 1949, with Germany dividing between the eastern Soviet bloc and the western US bloc. UU. -UK-France, the nightmare suffered by German women seemed to have come to an end.
We may never know the true magnitude of rape. Soviet military courts and other sources remain classified. Russia's parliament recently passed a law that says anyone who denies Russia's record in World War II could face fines and up to five years in prison. Liberal western democracies are quick to suppress any investigation that disparages the winners: there are many reports that show that other Allied troops, including those of the United States, took part in some incidents of mass rape, and at least, they knew what was going on but They decided to look away.
But it is undeniable the double moral of our current progressive era: at a time when so many university administrations, political movements and cultural awareness programs are so obsessed with the supposed "rape culture" that permeates us, nothing is taught about the worst case of mass rape in human history, not a single word is said to us. Most certainly, if you're reading this, it's the first time you've heard of this terrible tragedy.
